Step 4
We made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves.
What it means
An honest look at my own patterns — the pursuing, the explaining, the rescuing, the score-keeping — so I can change what is mine.
How abandonment distorts it
My system does not do inventory. It does prosecution. It takes an honest look and converts it into a case against me.
In this marriage
I can be honest about how I showed up in this marriage without accepting responsibility for another adult's decision to betray it.
Inside me
Inventory is a list of patterns, not a verdict on my worth. If I cannot write it without contempt, I am not ready to write it today.
Do not do this for 0 minutes
- NEVER convert inventory into self-blame for being betrayed. What was done to you does not belong on your list. If a line starts to explain why the affair was your fault, stop writing and call someone.
Behavioral exercise
- Write inventory only in daylight, only when regulated, and only with a support person available afterward. Never during activation.
