Asking, then acting as if. The action is the asking.
How abandonment distorts it
Humility gets confused with worthlessness. It is not. Humility is accurate size, not small size.
In this marriage
I ask for the compulsion to pursue to be lifted, and in the meantime I do not pursue.
Inside me
Ask in the morning, out loud. Then behave as though it were granted.

Morning Surrender
God, I am awake and I am afraid.
I cannot control her heart, her timing, or the outcome.
I surrender the outcome without surrendering myself.
Show me what is mine to do today.
Keep me honest, sober, and kind.
Whatever happens, I will not abandon myself.
